While on the plane in Tel Aviv, waiting for the longggggggggggggggggggg flight back home to New York to begin, I took a copy of El Al’s magazine, February 2013 edition, entitled Atmosphere out of the seat pocket and started reading (note: the magazine is also available in digital version).
On pages 28 and 29, I came across an article entitled Running Tel Aviv! It sets forth a running route along the promenade along the beautiful beach that runs the length of Tel Aviv. I ran this route. Its filled with lots of runners and its scenic and flat (you just had to be careful not to be hit by the bicycles and the kadima balls).
According to the magazine, the route begins at Mezizim Beach to Gordon Beach to Frishman Beach to Bograshov Beach, Jerusalem Beach, Aviv Beach proceeds to Dolphinarium, Charles Klor Park and finishing at Jaffa Port. Don’t be scared. In all, this is only a 5 Kilometer run!
If interested in a longer distance run, there’s the Yarkon River Trail and Park, which begins near Tel Aviv port. (I got to the base of the River Trail and was tempted to run it, but then I realized I’d miss the great breakfast at my hotel if I didn’t turn around and go back).
By the way, the Tel Aviv Marathon is in 3 weeks. I saw lots of posters such as this one, and, of course, wished I could be there to run it (who looks like this when running a marathon?).
Tel Aviv is also a very bicycle-friendly town. Next to the runner paths are marked cycle paths, and my hotel even had free bicycles for guest use. Here’s a good article on Cycling in Tel Aviv.
