These deals come around from time to time. Presently, if you subscribe to Barron’s through the AAdvantage Shopping Portal, you will earn 1,000 miles. The same is true for a subscription to the Wall Street Journal through the AAdvantage Shopping Portal.
Essentially, it’s pretty easy. All you have to do is:
- Subscribe to Barron’s and/or WSJ through the AAdvantage Shopping Portal.
- Pay $12 for 12 weeks.
- Cancel sometime after 30 days.
Be sure to read the fine print. For example these are the terms for the WSJ promotion:
Get 12 weeks for $12: Only eligible on paid subscriptions. Only eligible on first month for pay by month subscriptions. Subscription must be active for at least 30 days. Eligible on one subscription per household. Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site.
Terms for the Barron’s promotion:
Only eligible on paid subscriptions. Only eligible on first month for pay by month subscriptions. Subscription must be active for at least 30 days. Eligible on one subscription per household. Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site
Other airlines and shopping portals have similar promotions, but right now the 1,000 mile offer from American Airlines is probably the best offer.
Last year, the deal was even sweeter, as the WSJ and Barron’s promotions were only $1 and the miles earned were up to 1,300 .

Thanks for this head’s up! FYI, and that of your readers, if you have had a subscription in the past, the cancellation date for that old subscription must be at least 6 months ago to qualify for a new promo rate, per phone call with WSJ rep.
