Last night before I went to sleep, I saw an announcement that entries for the lottery to enter the 2014 Virgin London Marathon opened today, April 29, 2013. This is a huge marathon, one I’ve wanted to run. So my plan for this morning was to enter the lottery and to write a blog post informing others of this.
Except, I woke this morning, and only to learn that the ballot has already closed after being swamped with entries.
We’re sorry but the online ballot for the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon is now closed. If you’ve already entered the ballot, we’ll let you know in early October whether you’ve been successful.
There are still other methods of entry – and they are listed on this page. They are:
Overseas entries
Good for Age entries
UK Athletics Club entries
Championship entries
Charity entries
The 2014 Virgin Money London Wheelchair Marathon
Deferred entries due to injury or illness
Of course, there is always the possibility of entry by waiting another year, or just choosing another race. There are certainly many others. Isn’t it insane how popular the sport of marathoning has become?

Wow. That’s insane! I’m going to enter in 2015. It’s good to know that as soon as it opens, I gotta get my name in. But still…sounds worse than trying to register for Boston!

Bummer that you didn’t apply last night. It closes quickly each year b/c only 5,500 overseas ballot slots are allocated. I was hoping you’d apply before going to bed. I posted about it last night:

Kino – I don’t follow facebook that much, unless someone mentions or contacts me. Plus, I was on the road last night coming home from an extended weekend in Virginia – I attended the Freddies Awards, then Frequent Travelers University. I did see your post, but I was tired, and it just didn’t dawn on me that a lottery entry would close out …
