This weekend, I spent one night at the Hyatt Regency JFK Airport at Resorts World New York. Yes, that is quite a mouthful of a name, but hear me out. It is a collaborative project by a casino (Resorts World) and World of Hyatt.
Many have suggested that, since the hotel/casino is not really close to JFK and doesn’t have a shuttle, Hyatt should drop JFK Airport from the hotel name. The hotel on the other hand has told me that they hope to start shuttles to JFK sometime in the future with the goal of drawing travelers not only to the hotel but also to the casino. At present, there is a shuttle bus from the closest subway stop on the A train. Otherwise, the primary options are Uber or taxi, or to drive (the parking is free).
Although I used a free one night certificate to book the hotel, I was proactively upgraded to an Executive Suite – which typically goes for over $1,000 per night.
The hotel is brand new. The lobby is large and smartly decorated.
As it was the end of October, there was some sort of pumpkin contest in the lobby.
Our suite was on the 9th floor.
The suite is new and modern. The decor is nice and comfortable. There are 60 inch TVs in both rooms, and plenty of outlets. There is also a desk, a small refrigerator with two waters in it as well as a coffee machine. The suite also has a safe and ample drawer and closet space.

There are two bathrooms. The master bathroom is as luxurious as any bathroom at a Park Hyatt hotel. It has double sinks, a shower and a bathtub, sink toiletries by Pharmacopia and bathing toiletries by Le Labo!
The second bathroom, right off the entry, has not only a toilet and sink but also a full shower.
There is artwork throughout the suite that focuses not just New York City, but more specifically on the Borough of Queens, where the hotel is located.
One of the many benefits of the hotel is that it has a Regency Club. Appetizers, including a buffet of hot food and salads, are served each evening from 5 pm to 8 pm. The evening I was there, the offerings included coconut shrimp, stuffed mushrooms and small cuban sandwiches as well as seafood salad and green salad. There were individually wrapped cookies and brownies as well as mousse for dessert. I was quite surprised (in a good way) to see canned wine, beer and cocktails also offered without charge. Staff was pleasant and the food (and drinks) were good, and served as our dinner.

Breakfast (from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) included a selection of hot and cold foods. The hot items included scrambled eggs, rolled apple pancakes, hash browns, bacon and chicken sausage. There was also fresh fruit, bottled juices, individual cereal and oatmeal cups, smoked salmon and fresh fruit salad. Bagels, bread and pastries were also served.
Resorts World Casino was right in the same building (literally down the hall) as the hotel. I only did a quick walk through the casino. It was busy but not crowded. The table games and machines were all electronic – even the dealers were not live. It was kind of creepy. There was real life entertainment though.
The Fitness Center had a good selection of new, mainly Precor, machines. I wish they also had Peloton Bikes and a rowing machine, but they didn’t.
All in all, we had a great time and a great staycation. Although the hotel is not quite a hop, skip and jump from JFK Airport, it is beautiful and an excellent value, and an easy Uber ride from JFK. Therefore, I would recommend this hotel for a layover or any travels that bring one through the area.
I plan to return to the hotel again in February, and am looking forward to it.

My wife and I stayed there in early May and loved the hotel. We didn’t get any notable upgrade but the club lounge was out of the ballpark with stunningly high quality food and nice drink selection in the evening and a very solid breakfast. The food options in the lobby were also of surprisingly high quality. We weren’t sure what to expect but a large comfortable room and the best club lounge we’ve experienced in the USA wasn’t necessarily it. The only notable drawback for us was the lack of an airport shuttle.
