Sometimes it is the minor or seemingly mundane things that surprisingly become part of our treasured travel memories.
Enter, Sunrise Laundry in Sanur, Bali.
My prior trips used to be predominantly fast travel, so I never needed to be concerned with doing laundry while traveling. Maybe just a quick hand-wash of a few items, but that was all. Well, now that I’ve transitioned into slow travel with many trips spanning a few weeks to over a month, especially with travel to warm locations, the situation is quite different.
We were recently on a month-long trip that began in Los Angeles for a few days, then Bangkok for a few more, and then Bali for three weeks. By the time we got to Bali, Dave was screaming that he wanted to wash his clothing. We were staying at either the Hyatt Regency or Andaz at the time. We asked around and we were told to go to Sunrise Laundry, which is close to both hotels.
If you exit either of the above hotels and make a left onto the main street, it will be a block or two down on the other side of the street. (officially the address is Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.190, Sanur).
We were greeted with warm, genuine smiles at the shop, which is cute and very clean.
You have a choice of self service or drop off laundry service. We chose to drop off our laundry. The price when we visited a few months ago was 60,000 Indonesian Rupees (less than US $4) for up to 5 kilos of wash. For this, we got our laundry washed, dried and folded. I have allergies, so we opted for the fragrance free detergent.
We had dropped off our laundry before breakfast and picked it up a few hours later. Everything was clean and folded and nothing was missing.
This is a great facility. It is clean, everything is washed and folded well, the price is very reasonable and the employees and owner are so friendly and kind. They advertise free pick up and delivery service, but we were happy to drop off and pick up the laundry on our own.
I have never used another laundry service in Bali, so I can’t definitively say that this is the best, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is. Sunrise Laundry even has an Instagram and a Facebook page. We were so happy with the service that we had the laundry done again on our last day so that we’d come home with clean clothing!
