After a lovely morning touring Plzen, CZ (Pilsen), it was time to get down to business. Beer business. My guide, Maria, dropped me off at the Pilsner Urquell headquarters for a 12:45 p.m. tour of the brewery. She handed me a ticket for the tour (which I believe costs about $20), we said goodbye, and the English tour of the facilities began a few minutes later.
This was a full tour of the facilities – from step one – the water – though the bottling and canning process. There were about 15 on the tour – including some Americans visiting the Czech Republic for business. Everyone was pleasant. The tour guide was nice, but rather dry. No one could get him to warm up or crack a smile, but we had fun trying. He warned that, if you wanted to take photos inside the facility, you’d have to pay an extra amount. Screw that. I took photos anyway.
The tour ended with an ice cold cup of the beer. Yum!
I learned a lot about beer-making. I couldn’t believe how fast those bottles moved in the bottling plant! Yowza! I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, and highly recommend a visit to Plzen and the Pilsner Urquell brewery.
Here are some photos:
You can’t imagine how delicious this was!!!
! Cheers!Disclosure: Czech Tourism Board covered the cost of the city tour and the brewery tour. I paid for everything else, including my train fare to and from Plzen.
