Tuesday night, I transported to Dusseldorf, Germany for a few hours by AirBerlin and Dusseldorf Marketing and Tourism. The event was held at the swank German restaurant, Blaue Gans in the TriBeCa area of New York City. (I work only a few streets from the restaurant, but on Tuesday I did not have work because it was Veterans’ Day).
The invitation called for a celebration to kick off the carnival season in Dusseldorf – costumes were encouraged, and local delicacies and beverages were promised. I quickly RSVPed!
I arrived and was greeted warmly by Madeleine Vogelsang, Communications Manager for AirBerlin.
She invited me to take a costume item, enjoy the food, drink and entertainment within. There was a slide show above the bar showcasing photos of the festivities in Dusseldorf:
I grabbed a hat, and joined the party.
I was suddenly in Germany. The foods were lovely, the drinks divine…
And there were even three carnival performers engaging the guests in their frolics!
Of course, now I can add Dusseldorf to my list of cities I want to visit. Is there a marathon there?

That’s so cool! How did you get an invite?
Will Run For Miles says
Often a tourism board will reach out to media, who will share the invite with other media, and so on and so on.
