[Possibly targeted]. I received an email today containing a promotional offer on my Bank of America Alaska Airlines Visa Card
EARN 2 ADDITIONAL MILES FOR EVERY DOLLAR YOU SPEND ON QUALIFYING HOTEL AND CAR RENTAL PURCHASES
through March 31, 2016
The email further provides:
Activate this bonus offer and earn 2 additional miles (up to 2,500 bonus miles) for every dollar you spend on qualifying hotels and car rentals when you use your Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card. Your bonus offer begins from the day you activate through March 31, 2016, so don’t delay.
This is not a huge promotion, but if you are looking to increase your Alaska Airlines miles, then it is worth taking advantage of.
Here’s the fine print:
*To be eligible for this offer, your account must be open with charging privileges. From the date you activate this offer through March 31, 2016, you will earn 2 additional bonus miles for every $1 spent with your card on purchases, minus returns, credits and adjustments (“Purchases”) made at eligible hotel and car rental (“Bonus Category”) merchants and/or booked through Alaska Airlines as the merchant of record. Bonus miles are in addition to the base miles and bonus miles (if any) you already earn with your card, as outlined in your Program Rules. Bonus Category Purchases earn bonus miles on the first 2,500 bonus miles (equal to $1,250 in Bonus Category Purchases). Once the 2,500 bonus mile limit is reached, your Bonus Category Purchases will earn 1 base mile per $1 spent. Miles are calculated at each transaction and base and bonus miles are rounded separately. Miles earned that are greater than or equal to .50 are rounded up and less than .50 are rounded down. Hotel Bonus Category includes hotels, motels and resorts; excluded are merchants that provide rental services of timeshares, trailer parks and campgrounds as well as real estate agents and websites and/or owners that rent vacation properties. Car Rental Bonus Category includes car rental agencies, taxi cabs, and limousines; excluded are buses, operators of passenger trains and rentals of RVs, trailers, trucks, and other vehicles for the purpose of hauling. Hotel and car rentals purchases booked through discount travel sites or booked as part of vacation package – except those booked directly through Alaska Airlines – may not qualify for bonus miles. Although we do not determine which category a merchant chooses to classify itself, merchants are generally classified based upon their primary line of business. Charges made at merchants that do not process transactions under these codes will not qualify. We reserve the right to verify eligibility of all transactions. If your account is converted to a different rewards program or to a card without a rewards program during the offer timeframe, the offer is no longer valid. Allow up to 12 weeks from the end of the promotion for bonus miles to post to your rewards balance. The value of this reward may constitute taxable income to you. You may be issued an Internal Revenue Service Form 1099 (or other appropriate form) that reflects the value of such reward. Please consult your tax advisor, as neither we, nor our affiliates, provide tax advice.
