In mid-April, there was a bargain fare on premium class (business and first class) flights on All Nippon Airways from Jakarta to the United States when purchased through ANA’s Vietnamese website.
It was initially rumored that ANA would honor the fares, but then ANA issued a statement saying the fare was the result of a currency conversion mistake and that the tickets would be canceled and refunded. This notice is posted on the ANA website:
Done deal, right? The above statement would seem to end the matter, but the confusion continues. There is a Flyertalk thread which is 10% fact sharing and 90% speculation and bravado.
Apparently, those with tickets in April and early May have been allowed to fly on these tickets. For those with later flights, some people have received correspondence from ANA informing them of cancellation, others have not. Is this matter resolved or isn’t it?
On April 17th, I booked one round trip flight from Jakarta to New York and back to Denpasar in business class for two persons for travel in 2024. ANA confirmed the reservations and issued the tickets.
Throughout this time, my reservations have stayed in effect and I have not received any communication from ANA. However, because the pending charge on my credit card dropped off and disappeared, I assumed that the reservations will likewise disappear someday too.
Today I checked my bank account online and was surprised to see that the ANA charge has reappeared on my credit card. It is no longer pending or invisible. A quick check on the Flyertalk thread shows that I am not alone.
The arguments have flared up over what this means. Is this merely a tech screw up by ANA or has the airline done an about-face and chosen to honor this fare? Some say report that ANA agents have told them that fares after May 11th will be canceled. (As an attorney, I would call this hearsay). But, is this reliable or correct information? I don’t know. I guess we’ll know more soon.

Thanks for posting this! I also thought the fares would be canceled, but never received any communication from ANA. The charges disappeared from my card and just reappeared today. The ticket was issued the same day I booked back in April and has never disappeared or canceled, which of course I found odd. But seeing the charge on my card today definitely gives me hope I will be able to take this flight at the end of the year. Definitely hoping for the best here!!
