Everybody says ‘Good Morning’ in Harlem because it’s true! And that’s lovely. (Marcia Gay Harden)
Among the hotels listed on the World of Hyatt website, there are properties tagged as PIPELINE, meaning that they are somewhere in the development phase, or, stated otherwise, in the pipeline.
One such property caught my attention: HYATT HOUSE HARLEM.
I went to work googling, and found that Hyatt House Harlem is a project by Robert D. Henry Architects, an international wellness design firm which emphasizes wellbeing and personal health.
The hotel. containing 175 rooms, will be located in the Manhattanville section of Harlem at West 128th Street and Convent Avenue. To say the least, the Hyatt House Harlem is quite impressive, and the Harlem neighborhood is vibrant and filled with history, culture, music and restaurants. The design calls for a 3-story ‘hanging garden’ atrium, along with a rear-yard garden cafe, an alleyway filled with rotating public art, a 2nd-floor “community space” and a unique rooftop speak-easy lounge with views of the surrounding neighborhood.
Here are some schematic drawings from the RDH- Architect website:

But when will Hyatt House Harlem open? The video says Fall 2020, but we know that never happened – because, well, 2020 never really happened. I am waiting for further information from World of Hyatt and/or RDH Architects – or maybe I’ll just take the subway uptown to find out for myself.
I did a google map search of 128th Street and Convent Avenue, and found this – which may or may not be the new hotel. It does kind of look like it though.
To be continued. Are you as excited about this as I am?
Hurry, get on board, it’s comin’, listen to those rails a-thrumming all aboard. Get on the “A” train, soon you will be on Sugar Hill in Harlem (Duke Ellington)
