De Plane, De Plane!
I was recently at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve in Puerto Rico (Review coming soon). We were on a walk around the property and we literally (okay, almost literally) stumbled upon the set of Fantasy Island! I kid you not – a new remake of the Fantasy Island series is currently in production by Fox Entertainment and it is being filmed on the grounds of the Hyatt!
In the original production (which aired from 1977-1984), you will recall Mr. Roarke (played by Ricardo Montalban) and Tattoo (played by Hervé Villechaize). (There was also a second remake of Fantasy Island in 1998). The star of the new Fantasy Island is Elena Roarke (played by Roselyn Sanchez), said to be a descendant of Mr. Roarke. Other stars of the new show are Ruby Okoro, a terminally ill visitor to Fantasy Island who finds a new lease on life there; and John Gabriel Rodriquez, who plays a pilot.
Welcome to Fantasy Island!
I took what photos I could. This appears to me the main structure, specifically built for the production. Can’t you imagine the helicopter landing with the Fantasy Island guests?
this is what it looks like from the other side.
And from another angle:
There are a series of villas on the hotel property (which I’ll write about more in another post), but one or more of them are being used for the Fantasy Island set.
Here are some photos:
They wouldn’t allow me inside, but I peered inside the windows of a few of the villas, and am not sure which ones were part of the hotel furnishing and which were part of the Fantasy Island set:
So there you have it. I understand the show is set to air on Fox in August.
What is your fantasy?
