There is new hope for opening of the Baha Mar!
The much-anticipated Hyatt Resort in the Bahamas, has a new owner, the Chinese developer company, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited (CTFE). The hotel resort and casino, to be operated by Hyatt, together with a convention center and golf course, will open sometime in the second-quarter of 2017. This was announced by the Prime Minister of the Bahamas at a tourism industry Christmas Luncheon a few days ago. Here is a video detailing the acquisition and the planned opening of the Baha Mar:
The Baha Mar suffered one set back after another, culminating in a bankruptcy filing by the prior developer in 2015.
I am looking forward to the opening of the Baha Mar. The Bahamas is a perfect vacation location, and very close to many cities in the United States. Last year, when I visited the Bahamas to run the Bahama Half Marathon (see Race Report), I saw the majestic Baha Mar all pretty just waiting to be completed and opened. Hopefully, that will become a reality in the near future!
This resort development will also be a well deserved boost for the Bahamian economy!
