The Hyatt House Fishkill/Poughkeepsie in Fishkill, New York, is one of my go-to local Hyatt favorites – it’s a nice category one hotel about 2 hours from New York City. Location, location, location. It’s in the middle of majestic Hudson Valley and easy to go to for a nice getaway weekend. I’ve been in suites and I’ve been in standard hotel rooms – they are comfy and clean (and honestly ready for a renovation). But overall, the hotel is really good. The staff is cordial. The buffet breakfast is excellent and even includes an omelet bar on weekends. There’s an indoor pool and a decent gym on premises. On a prior visit, the front desk clerk mentioned that I could also have a pass to work out at a nearby private fitness club. Somehow they always mention this after you’ve worked out in the hotel gym!
Well, on this past visit, I decided to check out AllSport Health and Fitness! Won’t Run drove there (about a half mile from the Hyatt), and I ran a mile or two around the hotel grounds before heading over to the fitness center. I really liked this statue which I saw while I was running:
I arrived at the fitness center. And what a club it was! It was huge! I handed my pass to the employee, and signed in.
I never even got to the locker room, so I can’t report on that, but as I wandered around, I saw lots of squash courts, an indoor pool, yoga, pilates and spin rooms, as well as an upstairs cardio room and a downstairs room with primarily weights and circuit machines. There was also a separate women’s workout room which (unlike other women’s-only facilities I’ve seen) had plenty of light and machines. There were personal training rooms and a basketball court. You name it! I mean, seriously, there was little this club didn’t have! If I lived nearby, this is a club I would want to belong to.
Won’t Run actually worked out, and then he said to me Kathy, we’ve found yet another reason to keep coming back to the Hyatt House in Fishkill! (And, this is one time I agreed with him!)
There are hotels that I have been to which offer their guests use of private fitness centers in addition to the hotel gym (like the Hyatt House in Fishkill), and others that have their guests use a private gym in lieu of maintaining an on-premises hotel fitness center.
I plan to write a separate post about this, but in the meantime, if you visit the Hyatt House in Fishkill, be sure to check out AllSport.
