Is the Park Hyatt in Vienna, Austria as good as everyone says it is? I’m hardly exaggerating when I say that people practically drool when talking about the hotel. In January, I had the pleasure of visiting Budapest, and staying at Parisi Udvar, part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt (a blissfully wonderful hotel) and Vienna, and staying at the Park Hyatt Vienna. I can now confirm that the Park Hyatt Vienna is every bit as good as all of the hype.
It’s not one thing in particular – it’s EVERYTHING – that makes the hotel charming, memorable and all around excellent. It is phenomenally luxurious. The staff is focused, friendly and fabulous. The attention to design and detail is amazing. The quality of everything is of the highest caliber.
We took a train from Budapest to Vienna. We arrived at the Vienna Central Train Station and then took a subway, the U1 to Stephansplatz (St. Stephen’s Cathedral). We got a little turned around here, but within a few minutes, we found the hotel.
The Park Hyatt Vienna formerly served as the headquarters of the Austrian Hungarian Monarchy Bank and forms part of Vienna’s First District which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We walked into this majestic building – we were greeted warmly and checked in.
This is the hallway.
The hotel is a category 6 hotel, meaning 25,000 World of Hyatt points per night. The cash rate is often through the roof – generally $500 and up for a standard room (but even a standard room at the Park Hyatt Vienna is never just standard). I had used a Globalist Suite Upgrade Certificate so I knew the room suite would be sensational. And boy was it ever!
Let me apologize. This post contains tons of photos. I couldn’t help myself. Every picture takes my breath away – and I wanted to share them all.
This is the suite. Note all of the rich details. Also note that everything, from the lights to the curtains are electronically controlled. A button here, a button there….
Notice the walls, the doors, the floors, the furniture, the fluidity and the art and the swirls everywhere!
There is a desk area.
Across from the desk there is a decorative unit that houses the coffee maker and the refrigerator (we asked the hotel to remove the minibar items before we arrived). The rooms at the Park Hyatt New York have similar units.
We received a very nice welcome note, along with water, fruit and a bottle of wine.
Typical Vienna view.
The bedroom is lovely. Again, notice all of the designs and the careful attention to details! Even the television slides down and becomes a mirror when not in use.
What can I say about the bathroom? Mirrors and Marble and Marvelous, right?
and Le Labo!!
The closet is an entire room that is richly decorated in dark wood.
Breakfast is served in the Bank Brasserie & Bar, which is gorgeous! There is a buffet as well as a menu, and as a Globalist I was entitled to both a menu item as well as the buffet. One day I chose the truffle eggs from the menu. It was delicious but a little too rich.
Warning: don’t look at these photos if you are hungry!
The fitness center is clean and equipped with modern machines by Techno Gym.
There is also a spa and an indoor pool. The pool is built into the area that formerly was the bank’s underground vault!
And there you have it. The hotel is a winner in my book!

Nice review, it was a terrific property back when I stayed at it last time in 2016 as well. BTW: I’m glad they replaced the Blaise Martin toiletries with the Bergamote toiletries. For a high end hotel, PH Vienna had some funky smelling toiletries lol.

What was Vienna in general like during the pandemic? How heavy is the COVID police presence? Are masks required everywhere?

I wrote about it here. Each country is different, but in Vienna they were vigilant in checking for vaccine cards and they had free testing. https://willrunformiles.boardingarea.com/my-experience-with-covid-19-testing-forms-apps-etc-on-a-recent-europe-trip/ A week later, I was in Stockholm and no one except my boyfriend and I wore masks.

Beautiful hotel. Am Hof is the largest open plaze in the center of Vienna (1st District) and the site of the original Roman settlement.
It may just be me, but if limited hotels within or on the Ringstrasse, Vienna may more great hotels for that geographic area than anywhere else.

We stayed there a few years ago and received a suite upgrade at check in. It is one of my favorite hotels. My wife continually asks when we can go back!
