World of Hyatt members have been patiently anxiously waiting for details regarding the collaboration between Hyatt and the luxury and boutique hotel chain, Mr & Mrs Smith hotels, and finally, I have some news to report.
Beginning today, April 24, World of Hyatt members will be able to book hundreds of luxury and boutique Mr & Mrs Smith hotels through the World of Hyatt website allowing members to earn and redeem points in even more destinations.
This newly announced integration includes more than 700 luxury hotels, resorts and villas, expanding Hyatt’s worldwide portfolio to 20 new countries, from Namibia and Fiji to the British Virgin Islands, and countless unique experiences – such as a staying in a treehouse in Finland, or in a country manor in England, glamping in a desert, or staying in an over-water villa.
Hyatt states that this new integration adds more flexibility, more options, more luxury, more destinations and more value to their portfolio.
Participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels can now be explored and booked on the World of Hyatt website HERE (filter by Mr & Mrs Smith on the top right of the map).
I’ve perused the Mr & Mrs Smith hotel website and I am blown away by many of their properties. They are gorgeous, beautifully curated, unique boutique luxury properties. Many are truly hidden gems that most of us would die to stay at. The participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels will certainly add to Hyatt’s high-end luxury portfolio. Although there are exceptions, many of the participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are also quite expensive, and may not be for all travelers.
I haven’t seen the entire portfolio of properties that will be participating. In fact, the primary ones I know of are those that are shown in the photos in this post (all of which were supplied to the bloggers covering this news by Hyatt and Mr & Mrs Smith) and a few other properties that were mentioned in the pre-briefing last week, including Lily of the Valley in St. Tropez, Kisawa Sanctuary in Mozambique, The Rooster in Antiparos, Greece and Finca Valentina in Salta, Argentina.
When the news breaks this morning we will all get to see the list of properties for the first time as well as the pricing of the hotels.
Thus, over 700 Mr & Mrs Smith hotels will begin participating in World of Hyatt today. All of those will earn points and can be booked for points or cash. Stays at participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels booked via World of Hyatt will count as eligible stays. Also, Mr & Mrs Smith hotels will count as a brand for Brand Explorers.
Uh oh . . . there is no award chart for Mr & Mrs Smith hotels.
Mr & Mrs Smith hotels will not be categorized like other Hyatt brands are categorized. The points for award stays will not be static (i.e., a fixed rate), but rather dynamic (varying) in nature. Hyatt explains that due to the luxury nature and the pricing of these hotels, they could not fit into Hyatt’s standard award chart.
According to Hyatt’s Global Loyalty Manager, this is not a move towards dynamic pricing and hotels in the Hyatt portfolio will continue to fall in either the standard or all-inclusive award charts.
We were also told that elite Hyatt members would not be automatically entitled to the same benefits (such as upgrades, late checkouts and free breakfast for Globalists) that such members would enjoy at World of Hyatt hotels. I believe the thought is that Mr & Mrs Smith offers guests many luxury benefits already such as beautiful accommodations and breakfasts at many properties. Mr & Mrs Smith executives said they will be continuing to evaluate these matters as they go along. Another open issue is whether resort fees will be charged to Globalists or Hyatt members on award stays.
I am looking forward to see what benefits this new integration offers World of Hyatt members. We’re learning as we’re going, so we’ll know a lot more in the days to come.
