Is dancing naked in the streets illegal? vulgar? reprehensible? Some Spaniards apparently think so after a handful (pun intended) of naked Italian men have taken to the streets of Barcelona dancing and letting it all hang out (another pun). Is this a new version of Running with the Bulls?
According to NewNowNext:
Hundreds of Barcelona (or as the locals say, Barthelona) residents took to the streets in protest of “dunken tourism” this week. With a record number of international visitors, Spain has been inundated with the best and worst the world has to offer. The trash, however, have been piling in, ruining it for everybody. The latest incident has seemingly pushed Barthelonans over the edge.
Photos of three rowdy, naked Italian tourists made the social media rounds, giving Spain’s drunk tourism problem a face. And a butt. A pretty nice one at that, but locals weren’t enjoying the view.
This story (or was it the photo?) made it’s way to countless periodicals. Why is that? Because it’s vulgar? Doubtful. Rather, because it’s a little naughty, but fun!
Does anyone remember streaking? (Honestly, one of my classmates streaked through our Contracts exam at the end of my first year of law school. And, what’s most pitiful is that I didn’t even notice!). Are you troubled by this or do you find it entertaining? Isn’t this part of tourism? I summered in Mykonos for nearly 20 years, and moments like this is what we called a good night.
In fact, the only problem I have with this photo is that there’s only one photo!
