Men have it easy. They wear running shorts and if they gotta pee, they just, well, you know, find the closest tree and do their business.
Women’s running shorts can have almost similar ease (just pull the liner to the side … and go), but it’s not so easy for women who choose to wear running skirts. Those garments typically have full compression running shorts under the skirt. They may look pretty, but it’s a pain to stop and wait for the yucky porta-potty, and then yank them back up when done.
Enter, a new Kickstarter project from SkirtSports, which began as an April Fools spoof:
Apparently, women were so interested in this “Trap Door” concept, that SkirtSports went to work, and came up with this Kickstarter Project: The Gotta Go Running Skirt which is being marketed as the only running skirt with a trap door and relief hatch so you can answer nature’s call without baring your assets.
Here are some of the details:
- Trap Door: A flap on the shorties secured with low profile hook & loop means you remain fully covered on the go but have easy access to the Relief Hatch. The Trap Door flap is pad-compatible for secure confidence and easy swaparoos.
- Relief Hatch: An opening in the shorties under the Trap Door anatomically aligned with your lady bits to enable easy error-free evacuation when you squat.
Your lady bits??? oy.
Alrighty… This may sound like TMI to many, but these are real concerns to women runners – including endurance and trail runners.
I looked over the Kickstarter page. There are a number of levels of contribution from $5 to $169.
My only complaint, is that there are usually financial incentives for contributors. Here, the skirt is priced at $79, and the early bird $65 Kickstarter is sold out. The current price is $75. Frankly, that’s not enough incentive for me to sign up to back the project at this early stage.
What do you think?
