Yesterday, at the Expo for the New York City Marathon, the kind people at the United Airlines booth, gave me two of these nifty promotional runner belts to give away on my blog. What are they? I found this description for a similar product on Ebay:
Sport Runner Fanny Pack Belly Waist Bum Bag Fitness Running Jogging Money Belt
….. but, in light of United’s devaluation of the Mileage Plus (or is it Mileage Minus?) miles, let’s call it a
Devaluation Belt
The Devaluation Belt is good for running and fitness, but also good for travel. A handy place to hold a few dollars and your keys and other valuables.
You can win a Devaluation Belt of your own!
I have two Devaluation Bags to give away. Just leave a comment about how you feel about United Airlines or your new or old favorite (or least favorite) reward. Heck, you can write just about anything. Write as often as you like. Vent if you want. Then make up some tweet, that includes the terms “United” “Devaluation Belt” “@katruns26point2” and a link to this blog post.
Your chances of winning are good as I don’t have that many readers. Two lucky winners will be chosen by the best answers on Friday, chosen solely by me…..

I have a confession. I’m a miles whore and addict. i will run, shop, juggle credit cards, do almost anything (legally and with the apporval of my husband of course) to earn miles. This hobby and usually United airlines because of their Star Alliance partnership have allowed my husband and I to travel the world (35 countries now) with free airfare. There have been bumps like when they merged with Continental but overall they are my favorite airline. Keep up the good work united! And thanks to “will run for miles” blog for their wonderful content for runners and for offerring freebies! It’s better than a cup of coffee in the mornings.

Increasing the 50k business class flights on Star Alliance partners really bites. I’m busy booking the remainder of my UA award tickets today!
Thanks for the contest!

All new belt design. Smaller and more ergonomic to better fit smaller rewards

Sigh, I remember the “good old days” when I was was able to redeem MileagePlus Miles for a 90K upper deck 747 -400 Business Class award to SYD … oh yes, and 2 First Class Award Tickets to Sydney as well … when it was still relatively easily to get Award Tickets to Australia. So glad I was able to cash in “only” 135K MP miles for 2 First Class Tickets (and the FCT!) on Lufthansa First FRA-ORD this past summer. That award just got SO much more expensive (sigh).

Gosh, last week I transferred 160k Ultimate Rewards points to UA just in case Chase closes me down for MS…..now the United Devaluation .. What timing?

The United devaluation really really smells! Expect AA, DL, US to soon follow:

Glad we already booked our business class trip to the Maldives.

Thanks for the opportunity. Why bother getting a Chase United Card and earning points on it? Phooey. I’m going to use the points and then ditch the card.

Now, I am going to fly all over the U.S. in December with stopovers and open jaws galore!

I am so glad that I used lots of United Miles for one ways this year. Lufthansa FT – ICN-FRA-LHR, and ICN-LAX-IAH-DTW, plus an upgrade to FT LAX-LIH. I guess I’ve been spoiled. Sigh!

I agree, now all the other airlines will follow. And a lot of them already had sucky rewards anyway!
Roberto says
Delta has already devalued and will kick in late spring next year. Only US/AA are left and they won’t do a thing until after the merger, but it will happen.
Frank says
Actually, USAirways has already devalued their miles, it depends on where you look on their charts. As for the United devaluation, the most brutal devaluations are the 100K+ miles now required for overseas travel each way on business/first class. For the past 2 months I’ve been looking at the US mileage requirements for travel to Paris and the rest of Europe on business/first class, and they are now 162,500 miles EACH WAY! The worldwide mile devaluation for business/first class travel will hit all the carriers.

I hope I didn’t miss the drawing! Can’t believe this happened right after my husband applied for and got a new United CC! I may be in the minority and certainly do not like devaluations, but as a primarily coach flyer, it will not impact me that much. My hopes of getting enough miles to fly Bus are surely dimmer, but I do see air travel as a way to get from Point A to Point B and this won’t stop me from traveling. On a day when the food stamp budget was cut $5 billion, it is hard to focus on this very first world problem, when 1 in 7 Americans will have fewer food stamp dollars to put food on the table. Now that’s a devaluation and these are not people who can just eat in the lounge!
Frank says
Oh, I just got my UA cc the day before yesterday. My timing is almost as good as a fellow I once knew who bought shares in a casino in Havana a few weeks before Castro took over Cuba and nationalize everything in the country!
