It was a beautiful late summer night – perfect for a fun, sexy, sweaty, healthy workout on top of the Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum!
The Ironstrength workout is the brainchild of renowned sports medicine physician and athlete Dr. Jordan Metzl.
His workouts focus on strength and movement and are not dissimilar from HIIT and bootcamp programs. Ironstrength is geared to runners and triathletes, though I think anyone interested in fitness would benefit from the program.
What else should I tell you? First, in addition to his expertise, Dr. Metzl is very real and approachable. He’s an active force in the New York City running and multi-sport scene. Second, he picks really cool places to hold the Ironstrength workouts! Third, the classes are both kickass and fun!
The workout I attended consisted of an Ironstrength session, led by Dr. Metzl and a Zumba session, led by Jeimy Canosa. While Dr. Metzl was kicking our butts, he had the children on the stage working out with him. Jeimy’s Zumba class was wild and fun! Wow, that woman can move – and she got us moving too!
Here are some photos of the evening – what a scenic way to sweat!
Here’s the Ironstrength calendar. Many of the sessions are free, others are charity donations. Whether you live in locally or you’re visiting, taking one of Dr. Metzl’s Ironstrength classes is a perfect NYC souvenir! I think I’ll take the morning class in Central Park tomorrow. Where will you be?
