You may be happy or sad to learn that this is the last of the installments of posts about my recent trip to Charlotte and Savannah. The full set of links is listed below.
The Stay Fit Fitness Center:
As I mentioned, the Hyatt Regency Savannah is a large hotel. A large hotel should ideally have a large fitness center, and the Hyatt Regency certainly does. It also has a lot of machines and equipment and all of it is new and modern. It meets all those requirements. Plus there were towels, and chilled towels, water as well as plenty of signature Granny Smith apples! These are the positive aspects of the Stay Fit Fitness Center at the Hyatt Regency Savannah.
Here are some photos:
There are some negatives though. The Fitness Center is located on a basement level of the hotel (actually, it is the ground level on the Savannah River side of the hotel, but a basement level from the lobby level of the hotel). To get there, you must go down an elevator separate from the main hotel elevators. When you exit, you go down a long, lonely (kind of creepy) hallway to reach the entry. The Fitness Center itself is very long and has a dark feel about it. It did not find it very welcoming. The atmosphere reminded me of a dentist office. This is hallway:
That is not to say that I would not work out there. When I visited, it was during the summer and I opted to run outdoors. But, as I said, the facilities are good, and there is no reason why any person who likes to work out, would not do so at the Fitness Center.
The Indoor Pool .
I always think that it’s a huge plus when a hotel has an indoor pool, even if it’s not a fabulous one. At the Hyatt Regency, the door to the indoor pool is at the end of the Fitness Center. Though the pool itself is fine, the room and the furnishings are out of date.
My analysis: the Fitness Center is large and has great equipment. while both the fitness center and the pool area are rather outdated, they each have great potential. Each area would benefit from a little makeover to brighten and modernize the facilities.
Note: Won’t Run didn’t comment because he never even saw the Fitness Center at this hotel.
