Hyatt and American Airlines are running a new promotion. If you convert your Hyatt Gold Passport points to American Airlines AAdvantage miles, you will earn 25% bonus miles. Plus, if you convert 50,000 points in one transaction, you will receive an additional 5,000-mile bonus.
This is the LINK.
This all sounds interesting until you realize that the conversion rate for Hyatt points to American miles is not great. It ordinarily takes 5,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points to obtain 2,000 miles. With the bonus, that works out to be only 2:1 (i.e., with the promotion 5,000 points become 2,500 miles).
Even with the additional 5,000 mile bonus in addition to the 25% promotional offer when you convert 50,000 or more points.
Sorry guys, I like my Hyatt points too much. I guess the promotion could be useful if you only need a few miles, or you have a plethora of Hyatt points (or even Ultimate Reward points which can be converted 1:1 to Hyatt points).
If I needed more American Airlines miles, I would consider applying for an American Airlines credit card issued by Citibank or US Bank, or even a Starwood American Express card, as the conversion ratio for SPG points to AAdvantage miles is more advantageous.
The promotion runs from September 15th to October 14th.
