NEW YORK STATE COURTS STRUCK GOLD AT THE OLYMPICS!!

Like many of you, I really like the Olympics. If I had to choose, I’d say I prefer the summer Olympics over the Winter ones. I enjoy the Track and Field events, especially (and predictably), the Running events. I also enjoy Gymnastics and Swimming.

This year was particularly exciting. I saw something happen that I’ve never seen before: an entire court system come together to cheer for the daughter of a court employee!

You see, 16-year old Laurie Hernandez, a member of the USA Women’s Gymnastics Team (and now Gold Medal winners), is the daughter of a clerk in the Supreme Court of the State of New York.  In the days prior to the Olympics, the excitement began: an email was sent out to court employees with the news that Tony Hernandez’s daughter was going to the Olympics. The outpouring of good wishes and congratulations was incredible. Everyone was giddy and proud, all at once. Even a GoFundMe fundraising account was set up to assist with the cost of the family’s travel to Rio. As the excitement increased, it was suddenly acceptable to hit “REPLY ALL” to emails.

And, with each jump, balance, twist and turn, everyone in the Court System together cheered and shared the joy and exhilaration of Team USA and Team Hernandez as the USA Women’s Gymnastic Team took the Gold Medal!

I think that every employee of the New York State Court System is feeling a little like he or she struck gold this week!
