Hotel Review: Park Hyatt Paris Vendome

On my recent visit to Paris, France I stayed at the Park Hyatt Vendome for three nights. I hemmed and hawed and ruminated until I finally decided that I would stay there.

This five-star hotel is held by many on a very high pedestal. Others question the hype, high price and Parisian attitude. Nevertheless, I wanted to experience what it was like to stay at this hotel and I’m glad I did. I got VENDOMED and I liked it. Yes, it is luxurious, and no, I don’t need to always stay at elegant first-class destination hotels, but hey, it sure is nice once in a while!!

I booked one night at the points and cash rate and the second and third nights using all points. I used a Diamond Suite Upgrade – as my stay was the last week of February right before the new World of Hyatt loyalty program began. Under the “old” Hyatt Gold Passport program, you could not use a DSU for nights booked with all points, so I could not be guaranteed that I would remain in the suite for days 2 and 3. In my experience at every single other hotel I’ve stayed at,  however, I was never moved out of the suite room to a lower level room. Except of course in Paris. Bien sur Paris! I refused to let this get to me especially since the downgraded room we were moved was still incredibly lovely.

The Park Hyatt Vendome is quite beautiful, in an exquisite, classy way, even with the ongoing construction all over (in fact, all 4 of the Paris Hyatts were at some stage of construction when I was there in February).

The Park Suite (the hotel’s lowest level suite) is actually a large room – with a sofa and fireplace area. There were two bathrooms and a walk in closet/dressing area. This was pretty elegant.

What I really loved were the bronze sculptures by Roseline Granet which adorns every room of the hotel. These human-like bronze figures were everywhere – from the hotel entrance to the door handles. They are true works of art.

This is the suite. How could you not love a room that looks like this? The windows! The details! The je ne sais quoi!

As I mentioned above, for the second and third nights, we were transferred from our suite to another room. Of course, we liked the suite better, but this was quite beautiful too. Like the suite, there was a separate sitting area, though there was no sofa.

It also had a walk-in closet/dressing room:

 There was only one bathroom, with the toilet in a WC. There was a separate shower and a bathtub. Dave was man-happy because the toilet was made by Toto.

I note that the construction sounds and obstructions at the hotel were at times annoying. I complained, and the General Manager offered to return 15,000 Hyatt Points to my account. That seemed like a fair amount so I accepted the offer.
