I came across an ad today for a million free Jamba Juices – the only catch was that you must use an Isis Mobile Wallet. My first instinct was – oh, here we go – it’s another Google Wallet! Well, that’s perhaps partially right, but this does deserve mention and some analysis.
So, What is Isis Mobile Wallet?
For those of you who pay at Starbuck’s from your smartphone, think of that. It is a program that allows you to add participating credit and debit cards to your account, and pay directly from your smartphone.
Participating credit and debit cards include many Chase cards (Chase Freedom®, Chase Sapphire®, Slate from Chase®, and JP Morgan Palladium ) and American Express cards, including the Serve card.
Only the Android phone is equipped for Isis Mobile Wallet. The iPhone does not have the necessary NFC hardware to support the Isis Mobile Wallet (but of course there are products in the works to work around this problem. See, e.g., this article).
While I may not have the techie knowledge that many of you do, at first blush, a product along the lines of the Isis Mobile Wallet seems to have so much more potential than the Coin product that has gotten so much attention in the past week.
I envision many promotions by Isis Mobile Wallet such as the Jamba Juice promotion discussed below to encourage people to try Isis, and to get comfortable with it. I also envision attempts to make Isis Mobile Wallet and other similar programs compatible with the iPhone and other smartphone models.

I guess I”m out in the cold because I have an iPhone. Then again, I’ve never really liked smoothies.
