Some people count sheep, but I often count nights. World of Hyatt nights that is.
To qualify for (or re-qualify for ) World of Hyatt Globalist status, the number of nights required is 60 (or 55), respectively. This may sound daunting, but the benefits of Globalist status are pretty awesome (like suite upgrades and waived resort fees, among other things). Plus, with the new World of Hyatt credit card, it is much easier to attain the required number of nights than it was previously.
On a recurring basis, people ask, do my nights count as nights for 2018 or for 2019 when my stay overlaps the new year? Similar questions come up for special promotion dates.
For instance, if you have one stay beginning on December 25 with a check-out date of January 1, how are the 7 nights of the stay allocated? Is it:
- A. 6 nights for 2018 and 1 for 2019?
- B. 7 nights for 2018, since the stay begins in 2018? or
- C. 7 nights for 2019, since the checkout date is 2019?
Here is the answer: C. In this scenario, on the first day of the new year, this World of Hyatt member will already have 7 nights credited toward 2019.
Often people don’t believe me when I tell them this. It seems too simple. If there is any doubt, I asked the World of Hyatt Twitter team this exact question. Here is the response:
If I am relying on an end-of-year stay to count for 2018 – I therefore must make sure that the check-out date of the reservation is December 31, 2018. If however I have already completed the number of nights I need in 2018, then I would make sure that the check-out date falls on or after January 1, 2019 (and thus, get a head start on my 2019 qualifying nights).
The rule is analogous for promotions where the last day of the promotion is, for example September 30th. In that case, the only stays or nights that will count for the promotion are ones that finish before the last date, i.e., September 30th.
Any questions?

How does this work for the start of promotions? For instance with this most recent promo that started. I had a stay that started in august and ended in September, would those nights count toward the promotion that began on Sept 1st?

I would look to the actual wording of the promotion.
I believe that, with promos like you mention, stays commencing in August and finishing in September would be eligible, but only the dates on or after September 1st would count.

I was just thinking about this question this morning while waking up. My Globalist (still hate the name even though I love the status) status will end March 1st, and between spending and stays, I’m extremely motivated to regain for 2019/2020. Thanks so much for the helpful post!

I had a conversation with Hyatt about the Andaz double nights promotion they were running. I was staying at the Andaz Singapore from 8/26 until 9/2. Unfortunately the promotion ended on 8/31. They told me I had to check out and leave the hotel for the promotion to count.
Apparently their system is smart enough to combine two back to back stays if you check out and check back in but is too dumb to be able to give you credit for the nights you stay within the promotion.
I talked to two different levels of customer support and in the end they wanted to check out and take my business elsewhere for 8/31 and 9/1 if I wanted the double nights. It was patently stupid and in the end I just gave the Westin my business.
