Okay, it’s not exactly breaking news, but who doesn’t love a free booze post?
United Airlines announced today that for approximately three months this summer, complimentary sparkling cocktails from Spritz Society will be offered onboard certain select flights to Italy.
Included in this promotion are flights from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) (May 6 – August 6), and from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) (May 26 – August 26). Additionally, Spritz Society cocktails will be available for purchase of $2 at the United Club locations at Chicago O’Hare from May 6 – June 6, and at Newark from May 26 – June 26.
According to the press release:
Spritz cocktails have become synonymous with summer and offer a taste of Europe. Given the drink’s origin, we thought what better place to serve them than on board our flights to Italy,” said Luc Bondar, United Vice President of Marketing & Loyalty and President of MileagePlus. “Our customers are going to love everything about these festive cocktails, especially the taste – one of the reasons we chose Spritz Society is their focus on quality natural ingredients.
So what are Spritz Society Cocktails?
Spritz Society cocktails are made from sparkling wine, and come in the following flavors: Blood Orange, Pineapple, Lemon and Grapefruit. Each 8.4 oz can contains 6% ABV and 120 calories. During the United limited-time offer, Grapefruit will be available onboard and both Grapefruit and Blood Orange will be available in the United Club locations.
I’ve never tried Spritz Society cocktails, so I can’t speak to the taste of these beverages (The closest I’ve come are the Simply Wine cans sold by Trader Joe’s). Also, the press release did not mention whether there was a limit on how many Spritz cocktails each passenger could have on these flights.
