According to a recent post at the blog Extra Pack of Peanuts and this thread at Flyertalk, Chase has sent targeted offers for the Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa Card by mail to various recipients offering a bonus of 70,000 points with a $3,000 spend requirement in the first 3 months (note: according to this Flyertalk thread, there was some rumor that this targeted offer was in the works). Anyway, 70k points is 30k points better than the current offer out in the public.
I’ve talked about the glories of the Sapphire Preferred Visa Card before. For example, see here. Some of the key benefits include:
- 2 points per dollar spent on travel and dining and 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases.
- Use 20% fewer points when you redeem for travel when you book your flight, cruise, or other travel through Ultimate Rewards(SM)
- No foreign transaction fees
- Earn a 7% annual points dividend – even on points already redeemed
- Transfer points you’ve earned to participating partners, including Amtrak, British Airways, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Korean Airlines, Hyatt Hotels, Priority Club (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza), and Marriott Hotels, at a 1:1 value.
The Sapphire Preferred Visa Card is one of the best cards out there even at the current 40,000 offer, but if you can get 30,000 more points, hey that’s a free flight or night or more at a hotel!
If you’ve received the Sapphire Preferred Visa Card within the past 3 months — you can ask Chase to match your offer to the current offer. They are normally quite good at doing this! The best way to do so is by secure message (find Secure Message by logging into your account online and going to Contact Us), and make your request. Here’s a sample letter which you are free to adapt to your specific facts:
I recently received the Chase Sapphire Preferred card (less than 90 days ago). I am pleased with the card and all the perks and benefits that come along with it. However, I just learned that there is a 70,000 point offer available after spending $3,000 in 3 months, which is a better deal than the 40,000 points I received when I got the card. Since this new offer is less than 90 days after you issued my card, I’d really appreciate it if you would match my signup bonus to the better current offer.
Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter!
As I mentioned above, Chase is very good at matching offers. However, even if they deny the offer (and there is that possibility because this was a “targeted” offer), there is always the chance that they will offer you some additional points, such as 10,000, as a courtesy. File that under “it never hurts to ask.”
So, if you recently obtained the card, ask for a match. If you don’t have the card yet, check your mail carefully for this or other new offers. You can also take a shot at applying for the card now, and phoning Chase to see if they will apply the targeted offer in your favor.

I did send a secured message and was sent the following message that they couldn’t find the promotion. They need proof. Does anybody have anything that I could use?

sheila – the issue was discussed in the flyertalk post (see link in text above), and on milepoint here – http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/chase-preferred-visa-new-70k-point-targeted-offer.38212/#post-1438710 –
the consensus is to give it a try – you can write back in Secure Mail or follow up with a call. you never know.

I emailed them and requesting for additional points – they rejected and would not even give me more 10,000 points as a courtesy. This card do suck really much.

sorry it didn’t work out for you. I think the card, even without the extra points, is fabulous. thanks for commenting.

Just found your blog, and I’m 88 days since I got my card, so I sent in the letter you wrote. We shall see. Thanks Kathy.

hi Hero. unfortunately, I haven’t heard of anyone having luck with Chase on this one. Still, maybe you’ll be the lucky one!
