I visited Toronto, Canada this past weekend, I spent one night at the Kimpton St. George. If you walk in one direction on Bloor Street from the hotel, you will find the very upscale Yorkville section of Toronto. In the other direction, you will find local neighborhoods filled with culturally diverse restaurants and establishments. I believe the area on Bloor Street is called the Annex, but I am not certain.
The street art was plentiful and ranged from paintings on commercial establishments, to large murals and graffiti on sides of buildings, to tons of alleyways filled with fabulous art, especially on many garages.
There is also a project located by the Department of Education filled with murals celebrating Canada’s diverse indigenous culture.
I was in street art heaven.
I’m sharing some of the art I saw and liked (in no particular order). I don’t know the artist names but many are very talented – you are welcome to add information in the comments.
Whether you study street murals and grafitti art for insight into a people’s culture or just for sheer enjoyment, it’s still a great experience.
I really enjoyed my short visit to Toronto. What I saw was only the tip of the iceberg – it’s a big city with a lot to see. I’d love to return and explore more of this city.
