I spent last weekend at the Hilton at Tyson’s Corner in McLean, VA for the Frequent Traveler University, a two day conference all about travel, points and miles. Mainly, it was a lot of fun times with friends, old and new. The Hotel is lovely, a few blocks from the famous Tyson’s Corner shopping malls, and doors away from the headquarters of Hilton Worldwide, USA Today/Gannet and Freddie Mac.
Usually I don’t like fitness centers that are in basements because they feel dark, dank and claustrophobic. This fitness center however, didn’t seem that way at all. I really liked it. It was spacious and bright. There were plenty of mirrors and windows looking into the pool area. The equipment was new, state of the art, and clean. If it hadn’t been so nice outside, I definitely would have spent an hour at this facility.

There were plenty of fresh towels..

The pool looked large and clean and welcoming. Except, well … it was closed, and when I tried to enter to take photos, the staff was not so welcoming. They rushed me off even when I tried to explain that I wasn’t going to swim, but that I only wanted to take some photos. Ergo, no photos.
The women’s bathroom and shower area was very nice and clean. There were bathrooms and a shower area. There was a basket of travel-sized tubes of the hotel’s body lotion on the counter (I confess that I took one. OK, two). I did not see any lockers.

Unless they were hidden away in the closed pool area, I did not see a sauna or a steam room at the fitness center. Thus, I have no Naked Man sauna stories to tell as I did after visiting the sauna at last year’s Frequent Travel University!
I do have one final observation and question. Why do so many hotel fitness centers have those silly pointy-cone cups at the water dispenser?

Overall, I loved the fitness center at the hotel. I just wish the pool had longer hours.
