Marathons For A Cause – Runners and their Charities

A recent post on the Facebook Page for Will Run For Miles, called for those who are running fall marathons for charity to post the details of their mission, including a donation link, as a comment to the thread. (Won’t you please like the Facebook page?)

Having run for charity (Boston Marathon 2010), I know how meaningful the journey is, but also how daunting the fundraising part can be.  (Did you know that many of the charities swipe the charity runners’ credit cards and  charge any part of the fundraising goal that wasn’t attained?).  Anyway, I have committed to make a small donation to all runners who share their charity information on the above Facebook page.  Perhaps you too can help out one or more of these runners with a modest donation?

Previously, I showcased Nick Pino, from New Jersey, a United flight attendant running the NYC Marathon for Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund (see, Charity Runner: UA Flight Attendant Running NYC Marathon for the Jason Dahl Scholorship Fund).  In another post, guest blogger, Eric Rubinson, also from New Jersey, wrote about Track Friday, a charity he began after Hurricane Sandy (see, This Charity Turns Black Friday into Track Friday: A Day Focused on Community, Philanthropy and Health).

Equally impressive and dedicated to their respective causes are Caroline, Michael, David and Danik.

Caroline Desjardins, from New York, is running the New York City Marathon in less than two weeks (so am I!).  She has chosen New Yorkers for Children, benefiting children in New York City Foster Care, as her charity.  You can read more about Caroline and her mission at her Donation Page.

Michael Shilling, from North Carolina has adopted a local homeless shelter as his charity: Durham Rescue Mission.  He donates every month based on the number of miles he has run.  The donation page is http://www.durhamrescuemission.org/.  He is also writes a blog called In the Moment Running.

David Goodrich, from Maine, is raising money for Operation Jack Autism Foundation. He ran the Mount Desert Island Marathon in Bar Harbor, Maine, this past weekend (so did I!) and is still raising money for this worthwhile cause.  see David Goodrich’s Page.

Danik Bates, from the UK, has chosen Diabetes UK as his charity (his wife suffers from Diabetes).  He is running both the Stevenage (UK) and Malaga (Spain) marathons.  You can read his story and donate money at this link.  Daniel Bates is fundraising on JustGiving for Diabetes UK. Danik is also a blogger – see, Danik the Explorer.
