Did you ever have one of those days? Everything “techie” that I touched seemed to come undone. It was a day of everything misconnecting, disconnecting, or simply going kafluey. Where shall I begin?
After a tumultuous but great few days of travel (well, except for the miserable 14-hour “Jetihad” flight from Abu Dhabi), I arrived home Wednesday night. I went immediately to work on Thursday and to a Travel Massive event last night. To my surprise, I did not feel any jet lag. Though my suitcase is emptied, I still need to re-order my belongings, catch up on obligations, straighten, and, of course, write about this trip.
This morning I’d hoped to start getting back to this blog – I wanted to write about my few hours’ layover in Paris and also about a Lyft special here in the New York vicinity. There seemed to be trouble accessing the blog, and then it would be there for a while, and then gone again. Poof. I got lots of this-website-does-not- exist types of pop-ups. Ever thinking it was me, I rebooted, cleared cache’s, to no avail.
Later when I got to work, the same thing happened, but after a while, I suspected that the website may have been blocked by MIS. I spoke to the IT people in the central office, and, at first they thought it was blocked, then they informed me that they had not blocked it. They said that, if it was blocked, it was the local office, not the state-wide office. Finally, after some more emails and phone calls, the blog is back. I have no idea who or what fixed it. I whisper and tiptoe gently as I say that.
And then, there’s my iPhone. A number of times in the past few days, I’ve received phone calls, but the caller couldn’t hear me. All I could hear them say was hello. Hello? HELLO? I called Verizon. The nice man spent a lot of time testing my phone, and concluded my phone was just fine. Phine. Not 10 minutes later, I got a call from Won’t Run. hello. Hello? HELLO? Oh man, he was getting pissed at me for my stupid phone. That’s not fair! As I mentioned above, I was recently away, so I admittedly turned off the Cellular Data and may have hit other buttons. I googled “Verizon cannot hear me” and mainly came up with hits about the Can you hear me now? slogan. But, then I found a discussion in a Mac forum on this, and followed the instructions given, and voila, I could be heard. If this happens to you,
Go to Settings – Cellular – Enable LTE for Data only (rather than Voice and Data) and, also in Settings – General – Accessibility – make sure Noise Cancellation is off
Yay, it worked. At least so far…. Thank you Google.
Yes, this was a blog post about nothing. If you can’t relate, I’m sorry. I needed to b*tch. We’ve all had days like this. TGIF!

Didn’t think it would offend, but I’ll change it.

The convenient excuse seems to be, “Mercury’s in retrograde.”

Yikes! I think I may have a miserable “Jetihad” flight in my future! Would like to know more and ways I might be able to minimize the miserable. Sadly I don’t think my fare is upgradable…
I hope the memories of the fun in South Aftica made it a bit less miserable too!
Did I say welcome home?!
