I decided to end a recent weekend trip to Luxembourg with a night in Dusseldorf, Germany because: first, I’d never been to Dusseldorf, second, Air Berlin has nonstop flights from Dusseldorf to New York, and, third, there’s a Hyatt Regency in Dusseldorf.
So, the day following the Luxembourg ING Night Half Marathon, I boarded a train to Dusseldorf. I don’t take a lot of train rides, but I really like them. There’s something magical about trains. I enjoy staring out the window at the scenery!
I arrived at the central station and actually navigated the trams.
I only got a little lost, but successfully found my way to the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf. The hotel is located on Media Harbor (aka MedienHafen), and it is sleek, modern and elegant all rolled into one.
The hotel had all those perfect little beautiful touches.
My suite was most interesting in design. When you entered the room, the door to the toilet was on one side, the shower/bath on the other and the sink directly in front.
The toilet was a fancy Toto, and the bath and shower room were simply incredible, though I must admit there were a lot of new-fangled buttons and switches that I couldn’t quite figure out.
Oh, look! Portico toiletries!
The safe, closet, coffee machine, etc
Around the other side of the sink area, was the bedroom. There was a desk, a nice lounge chair, cool artwork, and the view was incredible.
The Regency Lounge was just down the hall from my room. There was a great assortment of appetizers and wines, which served as my dinner. I was tired and happy. I relaxed and looked out the window at the fascinating buildings along Media Harbor. I was particularly enthralled by the Der Neue Zollhof buildings by Frank O. Gehry.
In the morning, I went out for a fabulous walk/run exploring the harbor and the streets of Dusseldorf.
I returned for breakfast. I was given a choice of breakfast in the Regency Lounge or the hotel restaurant. I opted for the restaurant. Sometimes I go to hotel restaurants where it seems like there’s an abundance of food, but all of it is mediocre. Not here – this was an extravaganza! The breakfast was spectacular beyond belief.
Oh my God, the food!
The scenery!
I had a big appetite – I filled my plate! The food was delicious and everything was perfect – even the pretty coffee cup!
What an amazing hotel and visit. I was so happy that I had made the decision to incorporate a stop in Dusseldorf into this trip.
