When I flew on the Emirates A380 aircraft from JFK-DXB last month, I filmed the safety video with my iPhone. I was going to post it here, but I found a much better version on Youtube, so I’ll spare you the buzz and crying babies, and post the one from Youtube!

As I wrote here, I was pleasantly surprised to be given a small amenity kit on the Emirates A380 flight, even though I was seated in economy class. No this isn’t a fancy Rimowa, but it is perfect for coins, a few toiletries or wires. And I have 2 to give away.
Simply
(1) leave a comment below about your favorite amenity kit or your favorite amenity kit content or story; and
(2) on Twitter, tweet “Will Run For Miles @Katruns26point2 is giving away 2 Emirates Amenity Kits at http://willrunformiles.boardingarea.com”
(3) if you don’t have Twitter (or if you’re feeling particularly nice), you may like Will Run For Miles on Facebook, and share this post as appears on Will Run For Miles Facebook Page to your friends on Facebook.
You may post and tweet daily. Contest ends Friday, April 24th at 9pm, and a winner will be selected at random. Only US Residents please.

Wow, only flown first on Hawaiian (several times) and Delta (once) and they didn’t give out amenity kits. So, I would say just about anything might be great, I especially like nice hand lotions as my hands seem to get dry when I fly.

They’re rest for holding electronic equipment.

CX and Asiana are about equal kits IMHO

I have about 15 amenity kits, all from United over the years. Never opened the plastic on them; not sure what I’ll do with them!

I liked the amenity kit that I received from Alitalia. The sleep mask, socks and ear plugs were great for the flight.

It’s been many years since I’ve received an amenity kit. I’ve got a few Delta and one Air France, but the contained only basics like eye mask and socks. Would love to win this to use for holding small items in my carry-on!

Ok, here’s what I always think of with respect amenity kits…. I took a bit of a hiatus from flying several years ago, so my history looks like this: I flew domestic and a few international long haul in the early 2000s, and then was flying only rarely during the years that all the goodies were being eliminated – like meals, free checked bags, snacks, etc. When we did fly it was between the US and UK and we only once flew a US airline (AA – MAN – ORD yuck!). Here’s the point – Virgin, BMI, all gave amenity kits in economy, and back in the old days (i.e. early 2000s) so did the US airlines. yeah, it was just eye shades, socks, a pen and a toothbrush, but those are the things you need most anyway.
When I started flying more frequently again, I also got into the miles and points game, and try to fly business class long haul. So, it’s hard to remember how crap economy can be on US carriers, that’s the absolute bottom rung. If you have to fly economy, try to avoid a US carrier.
Finally, I haven’t gotten a lot of different amenity kits, so I’ll say that my favorite is the activity pack that BA gives kids in Business class. It’s a bit elusive – we flew three transatlantic segments with them before we even knew it existed. It’s got a multicolor click pen and an activity book all in a BA cinch sack. So, if you’re even flying long haul with them and your kids, ask if they have an “activity pack” for the kids. They will like it much better than the adult kit with the toothbrush and lip balm and fancy Elemis spa products. But then again, why not ask for both if they don’t just give you the two – kids need to brush their teeth too.

Tons of flying and never received an amenity kit…what’s up with that? Oh well, I can live vicariously through yours I guess! 🙂
