Wow, that was fast!
Yesterday, the Hyatt Place Long Island City was listed as a Category 2 Hyatt hotel. Consistent with that, award stays were available for 8,000 World of Hyatt points. (see this POST).
This morning, there was still some award availability at 8,000 points.
Well guess what?
It looks like all point bookings have now been blocked.
More interestingly, the Hyatt Place Long Island City has now vanished from the list of New York Category 2 hotels! All I see is this:
-
New York
- Hyatt Place Buffalo/Amherst
- Hyatt Place Saratoga/Malta
- Hyatt Regency Buffalo / Hotel and Conference Center
- Hyatt Regency Long Island
- Hyatt Regency Rochester
What happened to the Hyatt Place Long Island City?
In fact, I checked every category and the Hyatt Place Long Island City is presently MIA from the category list.
Let’s take a poll – What category do you think it will be re-categorized as?
I’ll say Category 4. . . .
For those who might think I killed the deal – please know this. I’ve been watching this hotel for a while and I saw various significant changes in the last few days that lead me to believe that a change was imminent. I blogged it so people could get in on booking the hotel before the changes happened.

There wasn’t any redemption space available yesterday anyway to they can change it to category 12 for all I care. LIC is a dump.
Alex says
I’d bet it won’t go higher than category 3. The fact that it’s gone may even be temporary as the HP Flushing is only a category 3, and LIC is further away from manhattan.
James says
Yesterday you said cat 2 was correct lol.
You really need to look at a map. LIC is literally right next to Manhattan and Flushing is way further east near Queens.
Will Run For Miles says
so it’s one vote for category 3 and one for category 4. who wants to join in?

I’m thankful that you posted the offer. I was sitting in a business meeting when I saw it yesterday, and snuck in a search on my iPhone to see if I might be able to take advantage. I ended up with two nights over Thanksgiving (Nov. 22-24) for 16,000 Hyatt points. This will be my youngest children’s first time in New York City, and we will see the Thanksgiving Day parade live! Thanks (in advance) for the memories!
Will Run For Miles says
I’m thrilled that you were able to book a stay. Here’s a tip if you want to avoid the heavy crowds at the parade – right inside Central Park there’s a path that follows the course of the Parade. So, you can see the balloons from inside the park. And it’s totally exciting –
Paul says
That’s good to know; thank you for the tip!

I booked 2 nights @ CAT 2 yesterday for a suite. Just check the account, the reservation is still in there. I hope they won’t cancel mine
Will Run For Miles says
Hyatt should honor it. It was legitimately Cat 2 yesterday. And, I’m so glad you were able to make a reservation!

Thanks for posting this yesterday. Along with Frequent Miler’s post about Choice Cambria LAX being 10k, I was able to cancel a LAX Marriott free night cert booking and move it for one of my nights in NYC with this Hyatt Place in December.
Now I get to use my two Wyndham nights I originally booked at the New Yorker and use that instead for Boston in March.
