I’m trying not to fall behind in my trip reports (for fear of Marcos Gonzalez’ scorn), but, oops, I’ve done it again. In mid-August, my quest was to get away from home, but not go too far from home. I booked three nights at Hotel Nyack, a JdV by Hyatt hotel.
Whoever said that the only cool, chic hotels in New York State are in New York City haven’t been to Hotel Nyack!
Hotel Nyack is in Rockland County, just over the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge (formerly the Tappan Zee Bridge) (which we could see from the balcony of our room at the hotel). This was my second stay at the Hotel Nyack (see, HOTEL REVIEW), but things were quite different this stay – in a most positive way – as the prior stay was in the winter, during the height of the pandemic, just after the hotel had opened.
Prior to this visit, I corresponded with Samantha (Sam) Estupinan, the hotel Front Office Manager. She was very helpful in giving local restaurant and activity suggestions. I was quite excited to learn that the Nyack International Film Festival coincided with my visit – and that it was headquartered at the hotel!
The stars were well aligned for this visit! The hotel had a new restaurant (the Farm), the pool was open, we were upgraded to a lovely suite with a balcony, and we were comped a film festival pass by the hotel.
The lobby of the hotel had been redecorated since my last visit. It still has an industrial feel, but the furniture and motif are different. I like it a lot!
We were upgraded to a suite on the top floor of the hotel. I don’t know how to describe the furnishing and decoration of the suite, except to say that it is whimsical and wonderful. A few items, such as the couch, could use some refreshing, and the room would benefit from a few more electric outlets, but overall, we loved it.
The bathroom is equally spectacular!
There is also a smaller second bathroom at the entrance to the suite.
The terrace is huge, and from it, we could see the Mario Cuomo bridge.
There is free coffee, fruits and locally made granola bars in the lobby each morning.
The breakfast in the Farm restaurant is delicious. The food is locally sourced and well-prepared. As a globalist World of Hyatt member, the breakfast is complimentary, but I’d recommend it even if it wasn’t complimentary.
The hotel has an outdoor pool.
We attended a few of the films from the film festival. Some of the films also had live Q & A sessions with the directors and actors. It was fun and I’d love to return for this next year.
I was disappointed to see that no improvements were made to the fitness center, which, in my opinion, needs a complete overhaul. To compensate, we found beautiful parks and paths not far from the hotel!
Surprisingly, the hotel is a Category 2 Hyatt hotel, with rates ranging from 6,500 – 9,000 points per night! The paid rates are generally also very reasonable for a hotel of this caliber. We had a most delightful time. Hotel Nyack is a hotel I’d like to return to over and over again.
