Sometimes you choose a hotel primarily for the destination, and other times you choose it primarily for the hotel itself. I’m not a big fan of Orlando, Florida. Don’t get me wrong, it’s okay, it’s just that there’s no beach and I’m not running to see Mickey and Minnie.
So, why Kathy, did you go to Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Florida?
First, travel from New York to Orlando is quick, easy and often inexpensive. I’ve gone to many destinations where you lose a whole day traveling, just to get to where you’re going. This is just the opposite. Plus, the hotel rate was reasonable (less than $100 per night), and there were many overlapping promotions. This was still pandemic times, and we wanted to get away, yet not be in a crowded place. If all that wasn’t enough, as a Globalist World of Hyatt member, I was able to use a certificate to upgrade my room to a suite!
We visited this hotel a few years ago, and had good memories of our stay. This time – everything about the hotel, our stay and the staff was phenomenal. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – the staff can make or break the experience – and the General Manager (Paul Joseph), the Director of Operations (Jessica Cain) and the Assistant Director of Operations (Florence Powell) all went way beyond the call of duty to make our stay memorable and enjoyable!
The hotel lobby is atrium style.
Our suite was composed of two separate rooms:
There were two bathrooms in the suite (which I always appreciate!).
The views from the balcony in the room were so nice! However, we weren’t really able to use the balcony because there were too many wasps hanging out there.
What a lovely amenity!
Like many hotels during the pandemic, the Regency Lounge was closed, but we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant. As a Globalist, breakfast was complementary for us. It was a full breakfast.
You could have the buffet or order a la carte from the menu. It was all good!
I’m always thankful when a hotel has salad items available at breakfast!
The hotel pools are great – and they had these cave grottos too!
If you know me, you know that I like to work out by walking or going to a fitness center in the morning before having breakfast. Boy was I in luck. The gym is large and well equipped! I recently purchased a Peloton Bike, so I was ecstatic to learn that the gym had Peloton Bikes!
In addition to the fitness center, there are jogging and walking paths that go around the perimeter of the hotel property.
One morning, we drove over to nearby Disney Springs, and walked around for exercise before the crowds arrived. We got to see Mickey and Minnie after all!
Finally, one cannot review the Grand Hyatt Cypress without mentioning the resident parrot, Merlot!
Dave was especially fond of him and the two posed for a selfie!
I will happily return to the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.
