As is often the case, I had a free night certificate from my Chase IHG credit card that was about to expire. The expiration date was March 14th, to be exact. In the old days, IHG would let me use an expiring certificate to book a free night in the future, as long as the reservation was made before the expiration date. I learned the hard way, with my last “free night,” that that was no longer the case.
I wasn’t planning on leaving New York City, so I looked through the assortment of available free IHG nights for Friday or Saturday nights in March with the thought of a staycation in mind. Frankly, most of the available hotels I wouldn’t leave home for. But when I broadened my search to Sunday nights, the sky opened – – in Manhattan there were two Intercontinental hotels and two Kimpton hotels available. I like fancy hotels but I especially like boutique hotels, so I chose the Muse for our stay.
I forgot how much I loved Kimpton hotels, but I remembered immediately when I walked in the door of the Muse Hotel. I was greeted with warmth and sincerity, and even upgraded to a suite!
This is the suite. It reminded me of a railroad flat. It was decorated in a cute Kimptonesque fashion. The only negative is that the room was quite dark. One of the lamps didn’t work, but I think it still might’ve been too dark even if it did work.
One of the benefits of having a suite – or even a single room with a table – during the pandemic, is the ability to dine in the room rather than going to a restaurant. On this stay, we brought in lobster dinners (via Doordash) from a favorite local restaurant, Burger and Lobster. It was delicious. Yes, I brought a lobster cracker with me from home! File that under weird things Kathy travels with.
There was a safe and a small refrigerator.
The bedroom was very nice!
Love the graffiti art design of the closet! Surprised there were no robes, but that might be due to the pandemic?
This is the bathroom. I always appreciate a double sink and good toiletries!
We were happy to learn that Kimpton still has it’s renowned Wine Hour!
Complimentary coffee and tea is served in the lobby in the morning.
I really liked the fitness center. It is very clean, the walls are mirrored, there’s plenty of space and the equipment is varied and excellent. In addition to everything else, there is a rowing machine, two Peloton bikes and a punching bag!
This was such a wonderful staycation. We had a perfect time. And then, since it was Monday, I had to go to work.
