We All Live in a Yellow Submarine: A Visit to Liverpool and the Beatles Museum
In Liverpool, UK, we stayed at the Radisson Red. It was in a perfect location, across from St. George’s Hall and next to a major train station, but, for many reasons, we were less than happy with the hotel. It wasn’t the hotel’s fault that we were there in December, in the midst of cold, wet, miserable weather. That’s on us, not them.
But, a cold welcome, a room so small that we could barely move, and staff members who ignored our reasonable requests – well that’s on the hotel. And a red-hued fitness center so dark you could practically trip over the equipment? And finding a dirty wet rag in our room certainly didn’t help matters. I should note that I have premium status with Radisson, so maybe I expected a little more or better.
The hotel itself is stylish and well located. This is the hotel lobby. It is beautiful and was festively decorated for Christmas.
And the RED submarine – well that just said Liverpool!
The restaurant and bar were also on the ground level.
This is the hotel hallway.
This is the room. It is tiny. I know I am spoiled by the many beautiful suites I often get upgraded to at other hotels, but there are plenty of times where I don’t get an upgrade – but some rooms are designed better than others – to be comfortable and user-friendly despite the smaller size. This was not one of those rooms.
An amenity is always appreciated and a gin and tonic certainly says UK, a local touch that I like (although two such drinks might have been appreciated even more).
The bathroom was small, in a cute way, but clean and efficient and decorated in the Radisson Red theme.
This was the view of St. George’s Hall from our window.
The breakfast was served in the restaurant on the first floor. The buffet was large and included many classic English breakfast items.
We didn’t appreciate this wet, dirty rag or linen which housekeeping left in our room. I brought it to the front desk. They said a manager would contact me to discuss this, but no one contacted us.
Finally, the fitness center. Look, I understand the cool red theme of the hotel brand. I get it. But in the gym? Really? It was so dark, you could practically trip over the equipment. Maybe it’s just me, but . . . (Kathy shrugs shoulders and rolls eyes…)
That’s the end of my review rant review. I hate giving less than favorable reviews. I expected better from this hotel. This hotel has plenty of great potential, but I left feeling disappointed.
