If you love street art, you’re going to have a blast in Melbourne!
That’s what everyone told me, and they were right!
Melbourne, Australia is street art galore – from gritty graffiti to political messages and rock n’ roll art – to works by famous artists – often tucked away in alleys. Street art is truly everywhere in Melbourne.
Hosier Lane, only a block from the Grand Hyatt (where I stayed), is perhaps the most famous, but there are laneways and alleys everywhere – including AC/DC lane, where I found lots of art dedicated to the band AC/DC as well as many other bands and musicians. Other notable streets include Duckboard Place and Centre Place. You don’t need a map, just keep your eyes open, especially in city’s nooks and crannies, and you’re sure to find art. What a blast!
One day, we strolled to the Fitzroy area of Melbourne (which reminded me a little of Williamsburg, Brooklyn), and were treated to tons more art.
Rather than separating out the art by street or genre, I’m just going to throw some of my favorite photos up here in a sort of mish-mosh. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Even at the airport, just as we were about to leave, we found our wings to say #BYEMELBOURNE.
What are your favorite cities for street art? Do you have favorite street artists?
