Columbus Day weekend’s staycation in Rockland County, New York came about because of an IHG Rewards Club Pointbreaks.
Quarterly, Intercontinental Hotel Group (Intercontinental, Holiday Inn, Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels, among others) releases a Pointbreaks list – a list of hotel properties, with a reduced award rate of 5,000 points per night.
Usually the hotels chosen for Pointbreaks are too obscure for me so I’d never done a Pointbreaks before. When, however, the most recent list came out, I saw that the Crowne Plaza Suffern-Mahwah in Rockland County, New York was included, and that there were rooms available at this phenomenal rate over Columbus Weekend. This blossomed into my Columbus weekend staycation in Rockland County, New York.
I note that many bloggers value Pointbreaks stays at under $40, which is quite a bargain for hotels that ordinarily charge one or two hundred dollars per night! Since I already had points sitting in my account, this stay felt more like …. FREE!
The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. When they didn’t have the room ready immediately, they gave us free “beer or wine” coupons at the lobby bar, Koi.
Below is a pond in the lobby area with real Koi fish. You can see the Koi bar on the upper left hand side of the photo.
The remainder of the lobby was massive and cavernous, though I imagine it would come in handy for conferences and conventions. My vivid imagination however pictured ghosts seated and gathered around this open room.
Speaking of events, the hotel does have plenty of event space for conferences and catered parties. The weekend I visited, there were at least 2 wedding parties at the hotel.
Breakfast was not included in my stay, and actually I was just as happy, since I was able to go out for a run without having to cut it short before breakfast ended.
My hotel room had a Keurig coffee machine, which was better than just fine for me.
The room was very nice. It was large, spotless and modern. It was nicely decorated. It had a refrigerator, a safe, sufficient outlets, etc. I absolutely loved the mirror. I would love to find one to buy.
The bathroom was also very nice. It took a while to find the toilet paper holder, which was hidden under the vanity!
This was such a fun weekend, thanks to IHG! Please include some more great hotels in the next Pointbreaks list!
