In 2017, the AA Flagship Lounge at JFK opened and I only had good things to say about it in my review (see, American Airlines Flagship Lounge at JFK Airport, Terminal 8). I had the opportunity to visit the lounge on other occasions – it often wasn’t quite as good as when it first opened, but I always appreciated it.
And then, the Flagship Lounge (like most everything else) was shut down because of the pandemic. (sigh).
Well, I just received notification that the Flagship Lounge at JFK is reopening today, September 14th:
We’re excited to welcome you back to our elevated Flagship® Lounge and Flagship® First Dining experiences this fall. Locations will begin to reopen throughout the season and offer new menus in partnership with the James Beard Foundation. These celebrated local chefs will create region-inspired offerings just for their hometown lounge.
As luck would have it, I have a flight on a member OneWorld airline tonight from JFK which means I am visiting the Flagship Lounge on reopening day!
I am here now! Upon entering we were served Roederer champagne! Other than that, it looks basically the same as it always has. The food is very good! The sea bream and the Pernil are both delicious. Here are some photos.
Next stop: Doha!

I only eat Kosher food and that includes when traveling. Before it closed the AA Flagship lounge used to give me a choice of three complimentary pre-prepared excellent quality frozen Kosher meals. I was in the lounge a few weeks ago and was offered one tired-looking Kosher offering for about $15 [I cannot remember the exact amount]. It was not up to much but I took it. However, it really was not worth eating and the taste the once-great AA lounge left in my mouth was one of why are they so cheap. Either offer a decent complimentary meal or offer a decent chargeable meal, but don’t offer garbage!.
