Ever since I booked my trip to Auckland, New Zealand a number of months ago, I’ve been anxiously following the development of the Park Hyatt Hotel Auckland. Every month there was news, from the purchase of the development by a noted Chinese entrepreneur to bringing Chinese workers to Auckland to complete the job. But still, it seemed stalled, at best. (Memories of Bahamar and St. Kitts came to mind). Then, a World of Hyatt General Manager (Brett Sweetman) and team were put in place, and opening dates were set, so I became optimistic again. But the dates keep moving forward. A group on Flyertalk has continued to monitor the development which, unfortunately, by comparison, makes the OJ chase look like a speeding bullet.
Before my trip to New Zealand, I wrote to Mr. Sweetman and requested a tour of the site. He responded that it was impossible as it was still a construction site.
So, I’m here now in Auckland and took a walk over to see the hotel. The opening still looks like it’s a long way off, but I am not an industry specialist so I’ll just share the photos and let you judge. (Note- I’m posting from an iPhone so apologies for format inconsistencies)
