In a recent post about Global Running Day, I offered to give away one buff headwear which I received from New York Road Runners that day (see, Global Running Day and Giveaway post).
The winning entry was written by Yuk Ming Liu, who wrote:
I was able to squeeze in a 3 mile run after work and planned my route to end at the local farmer’s market! Went home with a loaf of spinach, feta, olive bread and some starter herb plans. I run for many reasons. It started out as a way to be outdoors more. Found a group of likeminded and similar paced runners who have become lifelong friends. We ran together for 10 years before our careers spread us out across the country. Every weekend run was also a social event and we would end up sharing the awesome breadbaskets at Le Pain Quotidien on madison ave near Engineer’s gate. Finally, I run all season in wind, rain, snow, etc so that I can be outdoors, enjoy the fresh air, the world, nature and find amazing vistas. These runs have been especially relaxing and therapeutic when work and life becomes overwhelming. It’s a form of yoga for me. I just put on my shoes, dress for the season and out I go of my apt building. This is why I run and why I love running.
I love this comment because it reminds me of my own running history, friendships and experiences. So thank you for the nostalgia and reminding me why I love running too.

Kat K! Wow! Thanks for the reminder email to check your blog! What a surprise! I spent all day telling my somewhat new co-workers that it was International Running Day. Unfortunately, they did not share my same enthusiasm. I miss my running crew and generally can all get together at least once a year now somewhere, usually back home in NYC, for a run. I enjoy reading your blog. Yuk
