The much anticipated Hyatt House New York/Chelsea opened a few months ago. It is a category 5 Hyatt hotel (although initially listed as a category 2 hotel – see, New Category 2 Hyatt House Hotel in NYC).
Last week, Hyatt held the official grand opening event. Most of the festivities were on the rooftop of the hotel – a great open space – with fabulous views of the Empire State Building and other notable NYC landmark buildings.
NYC was in the midst of a heat wave, so the guests tended to congregate on the side of the space that was shaded (and where the food was too!).
The bartender had a rough time serving all of the guests. I think the heat made everyone thirstier than usual.
I stuck to the wine, but there were specialty drinks for the occasion too.
We were taken on a tour of the hotel – three hotel rooms as well as the fitness center and the breakfast room.
The suite was livable and looked like a real apartment! It even had a washing machine! (I wish I had my own washing machine!).
Den Guestroom (King), is the standard level room at the hotel. It has plenty of space, especially for NYC (about 300 square feet ) and nice views:
The Den Guestroom with two Queen beds (about 375 sq feet) had a nice design and felt roomy.
This is the breakfast area. It looks like it can accommodate a large breakfast crowd. The breakfast here, like at other Hyatt House hotels, is complimentary – which is a huge plus.
This is the fitness center. It is new and clean and has plenty of windows and mirrors and space. The equipment is good quality and there are great views of the NYC skyline.
All in all, the Hyatt House New York/Chelsea is a very nice addition to Hyatt’s portfolio of hotels in New York City. The suites with kitchen facilities are attractive to both families and extended stay guests.
