A few months ago, there was a special rate for stays at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. Specifically, there were a number of dates where you could book a room at the hotel through the World of Hyatt website for $50 plus a nightly resort fee of $45.
(See, Why We CAN Have Nice Things: Las Vegas, Bellagio Hotel $50 Per Night).
I wasn’t sure which day I wanted, so I made reservations for three weekends in March, 2020.
So far, so good, right?
Until today. I received an email from Hyatt saying my immediate attention was required.
The email stated that the rate was a mistake, but that it would be honored for only one of my reservations. Therefore, I have to choose which reservation to keep and which to forfeit.
Here’s the text of the email in relevant part:
Thank you for making your reservations at Bellagio Hotel and Casino Confirmation Numbers (X, Y and Z)
We recently experienced a system error that resulted in the display of incorrect room rates at this hotel. This was a mistake, and it has been addressed.
. . . Bellagio and World of Hyatt have decided to honor one (1) of the above-referenced reservations of your choosing for the rate, date(s) and name(s) for which your reservation was originally booked subject to the terms defined in this email. All other reservations referenced above will be cancelled.
To select the one (1) reservation that you would like to keep, please contact the MGM Luxury Reservation Department at luxuryreservations@mgmresorts.com or phone 702-531-2041 or toll free 855-422-9769 by July 11, 2019. Failure to contact MGM Resorts customer service by July 11, 2019 to select the one (1) reservation you would like to keep will result in all of your reservations made at this rate and referenced above to be cancelled.
Personally, I’m happy that the Hyatt and Bellagio will honor at least one of these reservations. But others may have different feelings.

I just found out that I received same email two hours ago. It’s good that they are honoring that. I feared that I would have issues with reservation when I tried to login after they look at the rate I booked at. I was only going to keep 1 resolution anyways. i guess there are quite a number of folks who made multiple reservations like me.

login…no, I meant “check in”.

I didn’t realize (or I didn’t remember) that MGM casinos are conected to Hyatt.

Yes, MLife hotels and Hyatt have a relationship

since 2013… a very well known and long established relationship. Hyatt often runs double point promotions at stays on Mlife hotels.
and staying at cheap Excalibur has been a well known way to do a mattress run for Hyatt elite status for folks near by.
and not to mention the status matches between two programs. with my globalist status I received Mlife Platinum which doesn’t seem to expire despite the fact that now globalist only matches to Mlife Gold.
It’s often cheaper to book at Mlife.com instead through Hyatt.com especially if you have elite status. As an Mlife Platinum I get 20-30% discount on regular rate. You just need to call Mlife hotels and update the reservation with World of Hyatt number if you want to get points and night credit. you get both mlife tier points and Hyatt points plus any bonus promotion Hyatt might be running at the time. I received like $80 worth of Hyatt points on my recent 3 night stay at MGM Grand due to stacked bonus point promotion plus 30% bonus for being a Hyatt Globalist.

While I personally probably wouldn’t stay at a MGM hotel since they’re suing the people who got shot from their hotel, I think that this approach of allowing people to keep one reservation is a good idea. In fact, I think airlines should do the same with mistake fares.

I’m kind of surprised they didn’t just honor ALL of them. It’s not even like you’re getting the room for free, you’re paying $95+tax per night. They want you there anyway to spend $ in the casino, overpriced restaurants, shows, nightclubs, shops, etc. Wynn basically gives away rooms through their slots app and the resort fee is waived on those reservations as well.

right? You reminded me of all of the reasons I prefer to travel to locations OTHER THAN Vegas.

I’ve got a rez for 5 nights on this rate error. May have to leave after 4 nights. I don’t want to change it b/c I know I will lose the rate. Any options at checkin or during stay to depart a day early and not be charged the last night? If not, I’ll just suck it up b/c not a big deal at $95, but curious if possible.
