When I visited Hua Hin, Thailand this past February, I was treated to a complimentary wellness experience at AvaniWell at Avani+ Hua Hin.
As promised, I experienced a luxurious day of serenity and vitality.
Avani is one of many hotel brands that is part of Minor Hotels, a global hospitality group operating over 560 hotels, with a diverse portfolio of hotel brands including, among others, Anantara, Avani, and NH Hotels.
You may have heard of the Anantara hotel brand because Season 3 of The White Lotus (HBO) included filming locations at three different Anantara properties in Thailand (Koh Samui and Phuket).
I met with the Director of Wellness and Spa at Avani+ Hotel, who uses the shortened name of Khun (Ms.) Oh. She is beautiful and delightful as is her entire team who provided a wonderful wellness retreat experience including a delicious lunch.
The program itinerary for the day, as planned by Khun Oh, consisted of the following:
- Wellness Consultation and Body Composition Analysis (BCA) – Khun Pai
- Reformer Pilates Session – Khun Pai
- Sound Healing Bath – Khun App
- Healthy Lunch Conversation – with Khun Catoon (Media Department) and Khun Oh (Director of Wellness)
- Healthy Meal Prepared by – Chef Gibb
- Herbal Steam – Khun Nan
- Avani Signature Massage – Khun Nan
- JetPro Facial Treatment and IV Drip – Khun Poom
My first session was with Khun (Ms.) Pai for body composition analysis and a private Pilates instruction.
After filling out the necessary forms and legal disclaimers, Khun Pai and I discussed my health, fitness and wellness. She was very professional and knowledgeable.
Here is my first error. I had not realized that I would actually undergo a body analysis during this day of wellness. Had I known that I would be required to step on a body analysis machine (OH NO!!), I probably would not have had breakfast before the session. I kind of jolted when she told me my body fat analysis and estimated weight I needed to lose.
(As a note, I thought the body analysis must be horribly wrong when Khun Pai told me I should lose 9 kilos. 9 kilos?? WTF, I was more than a little horrified! However, I am happy to say that I recently lost over 20 pounds through healthy diet and exercise and I feel so much better now!)
After the body analysis trauma, Khun Pai gave me an introduction to the Pilates Reformer. I have taken Pilates classes before, but have never used the reformer. This was quite challenging but also fascinating.
We walked by the hotel fitness center, which looked great (I love gyms with a view!).
Next up was a healing sound bath. Have you ever experienced a sound bath? Wow, this was incredible. I felt transformed.
Next up was a lovely lunch, with the company of Khun Oh and Khun Catoon (from the hotel Media department) at Staa’s Restaurant, prepared by the celebrated Chef Gibb. If you’ve never believed that a healthy, nutritional meal could be delicious, then you must try a meal prepared by Chef Gibb! Each carefully curated course, from the mushroom broth to the tuna tartare to the salad and desert sampling was mouth-watering and scrumptious!
After lunch and a short walk around the hotel grounds, it was time to get down to business with a massage and a facial as well as an IV drip! It was all wonderful and professional. I enjoyed every moment and, when it was done, I felt relaxed and rejuvenated at the same time.
The day ended with a peaceful cup of tea.
The day was fabulous and enlightening. If I had to make any suggestions, I would say that, as wonderful as this nearly full day experience was, for media and others interested in the experience, perhaps AvaniWell could present shorter sessions as a sampling or abbreviated day of wellness. It was a long day, and I think a 20-minute IV drip would have been better than a 45-minute drip. Other than that, I am only filled with gratitude.
