The final stop on our December trip to four cities in Europe was Amsterdam. We had already visited Dublin, Liverpool and Manchester – we saved the best for last!
Amsterdam is near and dear to my heart. I lived there for one year when I studied International and European Law at the University of Amsterdam. I return every few years, for reunions and to see friends, or well, just because I like walking around and seeing what’s new in the city. Each time that I visit Amsterdam I am treated to new areas and developments, so it never feels like the same old Amsterdam. In 2016, I stayed at the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This visit, we spent four nights at the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam. I absolutely loved everything about this hotel!
The Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is a category 5 World of Hyatt hotel (it was category 4 hotel when I booked it). The hotel is located in the center of Amsterdam near the East section of the city. You can ride anywhere in the city from a metro a block from the hotel, but it was also easy to just walk everywhere (or take a bike like the locals do!).
The hotel is very green, with a notable botanical theme. Throughout the hotel, in both hallways and in the rooms, there are beautiful murals of plants.
The ground floor of the hotel has a front desk, vast comfortable sitting areas, and the hotel restaurant, Mama Makan, where we had wonderful breakfasts each day. It is also a popular upscale Indonesian restaurant by night.
You can see the emphasis on greenery in this cute courtyard at the hotel (but it wasn’t warm enough to sit out there when I visited).
As a Globalist Hyatt member, I had applied one of my Suite Upgrade Awards to this stay. I expected a Regency Suite (i.e., the standard suite which is generally assigned when such upgrade awards are used). To my shock, and utter delight, we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite, known as the Spinoza Suite (FYI – Baruch Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher). The suite is 1,356 square feet, with a king bedroom, a living room and a dining room as well as a separate study and kitchenette, and two bathrooms.
Here is a video I made of the suite:
And here are some photos:
Phenomenal, right? But the rest of the hotel was phenomenal too! Since I am a globalist member, we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, Mama Makan each morning and canapes and cocktails in the Regency Club each evening. Amazing!

Breakfast daily at the hotel restaurant was incredible. It was a feast of a buffet with everything I could possibly want!
Anyone who knows me knows that a hotel fitness center with good equipment is a priority for me. The hotel’s gym facility was all around excellent!
I would happily stay here again and again!!!

We stayed at the HR Amsterdam last year and absolutely agree it’s a great property. Loved the location so close to the Metro station making it so easy to get around the city. Very impressed by the breakfast!

Typical ‘bloggers treatment” as usual. I am Globalist also and spent 3 nights few months back never got the champagne, only small box of chocolates and of course no further upgrade neither.
so Buyer Beware, ordinary Globalist may not get glowing blogger’s treatment as in this case

did you apply a suite upgrade award as the author says they did?
