Today, Hyatt announced it’s planned acquisition of Standard International and its Iconic Hotel Brands, The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels, expanding its position in lifestyle hospitality.
The acquired portfolio includes 21 open hotels with approximately 2,000 rooms, and many more in the pipeline. The acquisition includes noted hotels such as The Standard, London, The Standard, High Line in New York City, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon and boutique treasures like Hotel Saint Cecilia in Austin, Texas and Hotel San Cristóbal in Baja California, Mexico. Following the closing of the transaction, Hyatt plans to integrate these hotels into World of Hyatt.
There are a lot of great hotels on the acquisition list.
There is no mention in the press release as to what categories these hotels will be assigned. I inquired about this to Hyatt’s Global Loyalty Manager, and was told only that We will share more about our new lifestyle group – as well as when World of Hyatt members can earn & redeem at Standard International properties – later this year in conjunction with the transaction’s anticipated close. This response gives me pause as it is similar to the response I received when the relationship between Hyatt and Mr and Mrs Smith hotels was first announced.

Meh… I’d get more excited if Hyatt acquires Omni and Loews
Make the Standard High Line a category 4 hotel and that’ll be exciting ’til they jack it up to 5 / 6
