Fitness Center, Exhale Spa and Pools: Ocean Resort Casino, Atlantic City

The newly opened Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City is part of the Hyatt Unbound Collection. The hotel has an Exhale Spa, a fitness center and both indoor and outdoor pools.

THE EXHALE SPA

Information and photos of the Exhale Spa can be found HERE. I visited the Exhale Spa, but I didn’t get past the desk. There is a brochure with prices for treatments.

Often there is overlap where a hotel has a spa and a fitness center. Here, the sauna, steam and shower are located in the Exhale Spa. At most of the World of Hyatt hotels that I have visited, guests have complimentary access to these facilities. That is not the case here. I was told by the Exhale Spa employees that these services may be accessed on a complimentary basis by hotel guests only if: (a) a guest is getting a treatment, such as a massage, at the spa; or (b) a guest has purchased a day pass to the spa.

I’m sure the spa is lovely, but it would be nice if they gave World of Hyatt members access to areas such as the steam and sauna.

The brochure lists group classes, such as Barre and Yoga (discussed further below) for $25. While I would prefer free, the $25 price does seem reasonable.

Moving on to the Fitness Center . . .

THE FITNESS CENTER

The hotel fitness center is located on the first floor of the hotel. It is quite huge, with an impressive assortment of state-of-the-art cardio and weight machines. It was almost empty when I visited. I’m guessing that most of the guests had not run on the boardwalk like I had earlier that morning, but were either sleeping, eating or gambling. To each his own.

There were some lockers and two basic bathrooms. I liked the wall decoration.

The machinery appeared to be new, as did everything else in the fitness center. It was also very clean.

My main criticism is they need to rearrange the room. Although there are areas of the fitness center with a lot of room, some areas are quite cramped. Plus, there are places where parts of machines are jutting into walking areas so that it is easy to trip and fall when navigating between them. These tripping hazards need to be corrected to avoid potential injury and liability (that’s the lawyer in me speaking!). By the way, Dave tripped and almost fell over this hazard.

Also, many upscale hotels put fresh towels and bottles of water on each machine. Here, there was a water cooler and the towels were at the fitness center desk. Hotels often also have cooled damp towels, newspapers and even apples. Not here though.

Now this is really cool! The fitness center has a barre, as in a ballet barre (not a bar!)

FITNESS CLASSES

Speaking of Barre, the Exhale Spa offers Barre, Cardio, HIIT and Yoga classes! On the website, it says the classes are $25 per class, but I was told the classes are complimentary for the summer (not sure which is true). There’s only one class a day, and they are not taught daily, but it’s a good start. Naturally, the Barre class is taught at the Barre in the Fitness Center. The HIIT class is taught on the Boardwalk, and the Yoga class in the hotel Sky Garden.

POOLS

Fugget about swimming! From what I saw, the outdoor pool at the hotel is less for exercise and more for socializing and enjoying the sun and scene. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I’m guessing that if you really want to swim, you need to get up early (the early bird catches the worm) or swim in the ocean.

The indoor pool is filled primarily with kids, splashing and having fun. It looks like a good kid activity.
