The website for the Park Hyatt Auckland is up! After years and years of holding our breath, collectively waiting for a real date when construction of the Park Hyatt Auckland might be complete and the hotel might open, it looks like the time is finally on the horizon.
Announcement: the new opening date is March 1, 2020.
We hope.
I posted photos of the construction less than a month ago when I visited Auckland. (see, Photos: Park Hyatt Auckland Hotel Construction).
At the time, I guessed it would be another six months before the hotel would open, so March 2020 sounds realistic.
The website for the Park Hyatt Auckland has more detailed photos of the hotel, including restaurants and rooms and suites, so we can get a feel for what the interior might actually look like (and it looks really nice!)

The website says that reservations are being accepted for March 1, 2020 and beyond, but that is not working yet. The hotel’s LinkedIn Page states “We are going live next week! You can now book your stay at Park Hyatt Auckland“, which to me, means the ability to book stays is either imminent or it begins next week. Either way, it’s a big step!
Also, the hotel will be a category 5 World of Hyatt hotel.

You know what this means, right? It means that I have to plan another trip to New Zealand!

Nine hundred and ninety-five dollars? What the?

I’m guessing that’s not the real rate. I would think $200 – $300 USD would be closer to reality.

Thanks for the follow-up and new info! I can’t get the new site to show a rate no matter what dates I enter. I have to respectfully challenge you on the room rates, this property *must* be exorbitantly priced in order to pay for it! Depending upon whom you believe the construction cost was around $500,000,000 or $600,000,000 (half a BILLION dollars). You don’t amortize that sunk cost with $200 room rates ๐ It is necessarily going to be (at least initially) one of the most expensive Hyatt’s in their portfolio. With that said I can see the whole Auckland hotel and property market bubble crashing immediately after the America’s Cup (IF it somehow manages to not blow before then). Once that happens, this Hyatts owner will file BK, the property will be sold for pennies on the dollar, and then room rates will get reasonable ๐

thank you for your comments and insight. I wasn’t firm on the $200 – $300 numbers – that was just a rough guess.

NZD $995 = USD$ 631
That’s pretty steep for a CAT 5
Will Run For Miles says
I think they just used that as a random number.
